Ruth was diagnosed with a serious disease, which she chronicled in a popular book describing her unique way of handling the news. Subsequently, she became a spokesperson for the organization advocating for sufferers. After her first keynote speech at an important event, the organizer criticized her performance. Ruth was devastated and asked me to help her polish her delivery—and regain her confidence. I found her to be charming and inspiring, with a good foundation of skills.
What Ruth needed were tools to allow her passion for her topic, sense of humor and personality to shine through. We used discussion, confidence-building exercises and a review of the fundaments of presentation. Ruth was highly motivated and able to put our work into immediate practice.
Her hard work reaped numerous rewards as she went on to receive standing ovations, raise thousands of dollars and become a recipient of the organization’s highest honor. And the organizer who initially criticized her became one of her biggest fans.
